Gandapur confident Imran will be released soon
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Ameen Gandapur expressed optimism that PTI’s founding leader Imran Khan would soon be released from jail.
Speaking on Tuesday, Gandapur refrained from confirming any personal involvement in Bushra Bibi’s recent release, stating that she was freed based on a court order and calling the cases against her baseless. He suggested that Imran Khan’s cases were similarly ungrounded, which, he believes, will lead to Khan’s release.
When asked if any assurances were involved in Bushra Bibi’s release, Gandapur emphasized, “We don’t believe in deals and won’t enter into one.” On the matter of PTI’s stance regarding the army and its leadership, he clarified, “We are not against the institution or any individual but oppose certain policies that need reform.”
Gandapur underscored that PTI’s pursuit of its rights remained peaceful and within legal and constitutional boundaries, calling for investigations into the February 8 elections and May 9 incidents.
PTI insiders claimed Gandapur had informed party leaders of his involvement in securing Bushra Bibi’s release. According to sources, he was told she wouldn’t face further arrests, although it was unclear if any assurances were given directly to the chief minister.
Responding to inquiries, Gandapur’s spokesperson, Barrister Saif, acknowledged that Gandapur had discussed his role in Bushra’s release, though he didn’t specify any particular actions taken by the chief minister.
Separately, Gandapur accused federal and Punjab authorities of denying Imran Khan basic facilities, including electricity and food, during his imprisonment. In a recent video, he warned that if such treatment continued, PTI would mobilize nationwide protests, declaring, “We will shut down the entire country.”
Gandapur emphasised that any betrayal to the party’s founding leader would be dealt with zero tolerance while accusing the government of ignoring the PTI’s mandate.
