Parliament changed a rule into law to stop floor crossing says Tarar
Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture Attaullah Tarar on Wednesday stated that parliament, which is the supreme institution had turned a rule into a law to stop floor crossing using the Election (Amendment) Act, as intended by the Constitution.
Addressing at a press conference, he stated that the Election Act Amendment Bill was presented in the Senate by Senator Talal Chaudhry, while it was tabled in the National Assembly by Muslim League (Nawaz) member Bilal Azhar Kayani.
The minister said, the bill was approved by the Senate and National Assembly with a majority of votes, and it then became an act. He then explained the issue, arguing that the constitution is clear regarding the scourge of floor crossing.
Tarar said independent candidates need to join any party within three days of the official election results being declared. He said the PTI-backed independent lawmakers had joined a party that did not exist in Parliament, and since seats are given based on proportion, that party can’t obtain any seats.
