Taliban endorse strict ‘vice and virtue laws’

According to local media, Afghan Taliban interim administration approved new laws on Thursday that enforces behaviour and clothing standards for both men and women. According to the Taliban endorsed “vice and virtue laws”, women are required to completely cover themselves with veils in order to “avoid causing temptation”.

The law forbids vehicles from transporting adult women without a male guardian and banned them from performing or singing in public.

The ordinance also prohibits males from shaving, cutting beards shorter than a fist’s length, wearing ties, and certain haircuts that the Taliban considered against Islam”.

The interim minister of virtue and vice, Muhammad Khalid Hanafi, highlighted that “no concession will be given on the enforcement of Islam”. UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said a brighter future or growth for Afghanistan seems impossible with these new rules.
