FO: Pakistan considers Junagadh issue as ‘unfinished agenda’
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, spokesperson for the Foreign Office, on Thursday reaffirmed the Pakistan stance on the Junagadh issue and denounced India’s illegitimate control of the area.
During a weekly press conference, Baloch stated that Pakistan’s attitude about Junagadh, a city in Gujarat, India, which was annexed in 1948, “has always been clear.”
“Junagadh was annexed to Pakistan. The state views this issue from a legal and historical angle.” Mumtaz emphasized that Junagadh was a part of Pakistan and India’s illegitimate possession of it violates both international law and the United Nations Charter.
She says “Pakistan considers the Junagadh issue as an unfinished agenda like Kashmir,” emphasizing Pakistan has always raised it at political and diplomatic forums and wants a peaceful solution.
Additionally, Mumtaz emphasized Pakistan’s willingness to cultivate “positive and strong relations” with Bangladesh to further improve the cooperation of the government of both countries, she stated.
“The strong relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh are beneficial for the people of both countries,” she added.
During the press conference, Mumtaz disclosed that invites have been sent to heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations.
Foreign office spokesperson also informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the UN General Assembly.
