Accountability court extends Imran, Bushra Bibi’s physical remand by 10 days in the new Tosha Khana case

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi’s physical remand has been extended by 10 days by an accountability court in Rawalpindi in the new Tosha Khana case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the couple before the court following the expiry of their previous seven-day remand and presented a progress report on the newly filed case to the judge. NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and the investigative deputy director of the case Mohsin Haroon attended the hearing. During the proceedings, Defense lawyer Salman Safdar opposed the NAB team’s request for an extension of the remand. The hearing also witnessed a confrontation between the imprisoned former prime minister and the NAB prosecutor general.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned for almost a year and faced several cases, including the Tosha Khana, cypher, and the un-Islamic marriage. His wife, Bushra, has also been behind bars for months. Although a court has suspended the Tosha Khana case and other cases have been overruled NAB arrested them on fresh charges related to the sale of state gifts. The slim chances of Imran’s release from jail become even less possible after he was arrested on new charges linked to the May 9, 2023, riots, despite his discharge in the iddat case.
