Actor Nargis allegedly tortured by her husband

Film and stage actor Nargis reportedly endured severe physical abuse from her husband, a police inspector, in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Friday.

A video circulating on social media showed the actor with visible bruises on her face, eyes, and other parts of her body.

Known by her birth name Ghazala Idrees, Nargis has been a prominent and highly-paid stage artist with over 100 film credits in her career.

She alleged in her statement that her husband, Inspector Majid Bashir, inflicted this violence when she refused to transfer her property to his name.

The Defence C police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Bashir and claimed to have conducted raids to apprehend him, but he remains missing.

According to the FIR, the actor alleged her husband wanted to accommodate the former spouse of a well-known TV host in her (Nargis’) house without her consent. She further claimed that he pressured her to transfer the ownership of her farmhouse into his name.

“Majid Bashir repeatedly struck my face with his official gun, causing severe bruising, especially around my eyes,” she stated in the FIR.

She added that her husband forced the gun barrel into her mouth, attempting to injure her jaw.

Nargis claimed that Bashir was attempting to seize her valuable nine-kanal plot, gold jewelry, and other assets at gunpoint.

“He [Bashir] had also subjected me to extreme domestic abuse on three previous occasions, but each time I overlooked the violence to preserve my marriage,” she recounted.

On Friday, she said, her husband went “beyond all limits,” dragging her by the hair and beating her in front of her nephew and employees.

She also alleged that he intended to murder her and warned that he would blame her enemies for her death.

Cantonment Division Operations SP Awais Shafiq told that Bashir is in hiding and that police is actively searching for him.

Regarding his position, SP Shafiq noted that Bashir had already been reassigned to police lines after being suspended following earlier complaints.

This marks the second documented instance of extreme violence against Nargis in Lahore. In a previous incident in March 2002, she was reportedly assaulted by dismissed police inspector Abid (known as Boxer) at the peak of her acting career.

In the earlier incident, which took place in her Johar Town residence, Nargis reportedly sustained 39 injuries, and Abid was said to have forcibly shaved her eyebrows and head, according to police records.
