Babar Azam resigns as Pakistan team captain
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially confirmed on Wednesday that Babar Azam has resigned as national men’s white-ball team captain.
In aftermath of this decision, PCB asked the national selection committee to initiate future strategies for white-ball cricket, including the selection of a new captain.
The board commended Babar’s leadership, noting his commitment to prioritizing the needs of the team and his unwavering dedication to the sport.
The PCB reaffirmed its support for Babar, recognizing his continued value as a world-class batsman and a senior figure within the team.
Babar Azam on Tuesday announced that he has decided to step down from his position as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team.
“Representing Pakistan has always been my greatest honor, and I have always placed the team’s success above everything else,” Babar said in a post on X.
He said stepping down as captain will help him deliver even more for the team as a player, and emphasised it is team success which matters most.
The former captain, reflecting on his tenure, added that in his remarkable five years experience he had always given his best, both as a captain and player.
He said his time as captain as a “rewarding experience,” but emphasised that this responsibility came with a “significant workload.”
