Delegation to visit US for Aafia’s release, IHC told

Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan informed the Islamabad High Court on Friday that a Pakistani delegation would travel to the United States shortly after the presidential elections to negotiate Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release.

Mr. Awan provided this update to Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan during a hearing on a petition submitted by Dr. Aafia’s sister, Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui.

The attorney general stated that the delegation would include Senator Talha Mahmood, former minister Anoushe Rehman, Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, and a medical professional.

The group intends to meet with US officials within two weeks, planning to depart shortly after the elections conclude.

The delegation’s main objective will be to advocate for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s repatriation and to evaluate her health and welfare, he said.

Justice Khan appointed Advocate Zainab Janjua as the focal person to facilitate coordination among the involved parties.

The next court hearing is set for late November to allow time for the delegation’s diplomatic efforts in the US.
