DG ISPR: Court Martial against Gen Faiz Hameed initiated
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesperson stated on Thursday that the court martial procedures against former spymaster Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed were started based on “concrete evidence” after a thorough investigation.
ISPR Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the Pakistan Army has no political agenda since it believes in self-accountability. He spoke about Gen. Faiz’s court-martial as an example of the military’s self-accountability.
He declared “The Pakistan Army believes in self-accountability.”
During his 48-minute media press conference, DG ISPR briefed a number of topics including Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and military actions following the August 26 terrorist attack in Balochistan.
He said upon Gen. Faiz’s retirement, several cases of violation of the Army Act had emerged. The court martial proceedings against the former spymaster had been started in light of these facts.
“Following a thorough investigation based on solid evidences, Pakistan Army formally notified on August 12, 2024, that Gen. Faiz had violated sections of the Army Act,” said DG ISPR.
He went on saying that the Pakistan Army’s self-accountability system is an incredibly robust, transparent, and thorough procedure that has been tried and proven. He said accountability approach relies more on substantial facts and less on accusations.
DG ISPR stated that upon receiving an application against Gen Faiz in the Top City case, the Defence Ministry referred the matter to the Pakistan Army while having full belief in the army’s accountability process.”
He continued by saying that a “high-level court of inquiry” into the issue was ordered by the Pakistan Army in April of this year.
“The army is a national, state-owned institution which must not be used to accomplish specific political agendas,” the DG ISPR stated.
He also clarified that the officers in question would be given their rights as per the law, such as “appointing a lawyer of their choice and the right to appeal”.
ISPR spokesperson added that the army regarded violations carried out for personal and political purposes very seriously and would take immediate action against it without any discrimination.
He further added “no compromise will be made on the national security, as a secure Pakistan is the guarantee of a strong Pakistan.”
