History made as Bangladesh whitewash Pakistan in Test series
On Tuesday Bangladesh created history after defeating Pakistan in the second Test by six wickets. After weather forced the match to finish early on Monday, the Bangladesh team resumed their innings on the fifth and final day of play. They successfully chased down Pakistan’s second innings goal of 185 runs and win their first-ever Test series against the Green Shirts.
After a solid start by openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan, the Bangladesh team did not let the Shan Masood-led team back into the game. Skilled players Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan successfully completed the run chase in 56 overs.
After today defeat Pakistan has now lost five straight Test series, three against Australia and two against Bangladesh, in the ongoing World Test Championship.
While with this victory, Bangladesh has shown their growing influence in the cricket world by defeating two of the nine Test-playing countries, including Pakistan and the West Indies.
Match Report
Bangladeshi captain Najmul Hasan Shanto won the toss and chose to field first in the second match in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan lost their opening wicket for zero runs however, Saim Ayub and captain Shan Masood after scoring up to 107 runs rebuilt the score. Bangladesh recovered fabulously, cutting Pakistan runs to 179 for 5. Despite Agha Salman’s best efforts, his side was ultimately taken out for 274.
Bangladesh had a complete disastrous beginning, losing six wickets for just 26 runs. But Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz combined 165 runs for the seventh wicket and ended Bangladesh’s innings at 262 giving Pakistan only a 12-run advantage in the first innings.
In the second innings Pakistan’s batting collapsed giving Bangladesh a short goal of 185 to chase. Bangladesh easily chases down this goal of 185 runs with six wickets remaining achieved a historic victory against Pakistan.
