Imran Khan upset over Gandapur’s remarks about journalists
Imran Khan has expressed his disapproval of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s comments about journalists.
During the informal discussion with media persons at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan faced backlash over Gandapur’s recent remarks.
In response, Khan admitted that Gandapur’s comments were inappropriate and that he had spoken out of turn.
Khan remarked, “Ali Amin should not have made those remarks; he went too far.” He emphasized that journalists work under significant pressure, and are engaged in a form of “jihad.”
On Sunday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister made serious allegations against journalists labelling them as ‘sellouts’ and ‘brokers during a rally in Islamabad’s Sangjani, which led to widespread criticism from the media.
The following day, journalists boycotted the Senate session in protest of Gandapur’s statements. Similarly, parliamentary reporters in the National Assembly also staged a boycott.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar personally apologized to the journalists. Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, along with Barrister Gohar, also visited the parliamentary media gallery to offer apologies. However, the journalists demanded a direct apology from Ali Amin Gandapur.
Earlier, Imran Khan had defended Gandapur statement, suggesting that his comments reflected the sentiments of the nation. Khan also criticized those who apologized for Gandapur’s remarks, labeling them as “cowards” unworthy of remaining in the party.
