Lifetime ban for PBF officials after boxers go missing on foreign tours
In a significant development, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has issued a lifetime ban on Khalid Mehmood, president of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), and secretary Col (retd) Nasir Ijaz Tung after three boxers went missing during overseas tours.
Over the last two years, three Pakistani boxers have been disappeared. Suleman Baloch and Nazeerullah Khan went missing in Birmingham in 2022, just days after the Commonwealth Games ended.
More recently, in March 2023, Asian bronze medallist Zohaib Rasheed disappeared in Italy during the World Qualifying round for the Paris Olympics.
These incidents caused the PSB to investigate the PBF officials for negligence and mismanagement regarding the boxers’ safety.

A committee formed by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) recommended that the federation’s top officials receive lifetime bans and suggested referring the case to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Acting on this recommendation, Mehmood and Ijaz were banned by the PSB Board of Governors (BoG) , preventing them from holding any future roles in national sports federations. Besides being PBF president, Khalid Mehmood is also the secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).
In response, Nasir Tung called the BoG’s decision “illegal” and announced plans to challenge the lifetime ban in court.
