NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq takes notice of Parliament raid
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Speaker of the National Assembly, has acknowledged the late-night raids on the Parliament House and vowed to hold those involved accountable.
On Tuesday addressing the National Assembly session, Sadiq stated “decisive action will be taken” and that “no one will remain silent about the incident.”
NA Speaker Sadiq said “Last night’s incident will be dealt seriously and strong action will be taken,” adding that he has asked to see all of the camera footages in order to identify the individuals who were at fault.
He said that if needed, a FIR would be registered and those involved would be named.
Talking about earlier assaults on the Parliament and Parliament Lodges, Ayaz Sadiq emphasized there is a need of taking a strong stand against such violations.
“I was the Speaker during the first attack on Parliament, and we must stand firm this time,” he observed.
In order to discuss next moves, Sadiq has also called an urgent meeting of political leaders from all parties in his chamber.
Addressing National Assembly, Ali Mohammad Khan condemned arrests and expressed fury over “masked men” entering parliament. He strongly denounced the police raid at Parliament House referring to it as an attack on democracy.
During Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s National Assembly session, Khan said “Your colleagues Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Shafqat Awan, Amir Dogar, Shiekh Waqar Akram and Maulana Naseem were seeking shelter in this parliament last night when they were arrested. Maulana Naseem was picked up from a mosque.”
Khan questioned, “Is this an attack on Parliament or an attack on Pakistan itself?”
“While what happened on 9 May was wrong, what happened last night was 9 May for Pakistan’s democracy,” Khan said.
Expressing his outrage over the situation, he said “Democracy has faced arrests before, but what happened last night, with masked men entering Parliament and arresting members, is unacceptable.”
Members of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also voiced their discontent, further intensifying tensions over the incident.
