Pakistan marks 59th Defense Day
On Friday, the country observed its 59th Defense Day in remembrance of the martyred who lost their lives fighting India in 1965.
a change of guard ceremony was held at major locations, like Allama Iqbal tomb in Lahore and Mizar-e- Quaid in Karachi.
The state-run Radio Pakistan claims “It was on this day in 1965 the Indian forces crossed international border in the darkness of night to attack Pakistan, but the nation destroyed wicked plans of the enemy.”
In a joint statement issued through the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Services Chiefs, and Armed Forces asserted that they “proudly commemorate the triumphant legacy of the 1965 War” and that it was “a paradigm of the nation’s indomitable will.”
The ISPR statement said “This day is a moving remembrance of the selflessness, and bravery of our courageous soldiers who defended their homeland against odds.”
The Pakistani Armed Forces firmly blocked the enemy’s evil plans fifty-nine years ago, achieving a historic win against enemy that will be engraved in the pages of history forever. The nation’s resiliency and will in the face of hardship was demonstrated throughout the 1965 War.
In addition to paying tribute to the soldiers who “fought heroically,” the military’s media wing promised that “their bravery and selflessness will always be remembered.”
The Pakistan Armed Forces proclaimed their steadfast commitment to defend the nation against all threats, upholding the spirit of 1965.
Armed forces also pay tribute to the families of martyred who bear the loss of their loved ones.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the occasion posted on X stating, “Today, I join the entire nation in honouring the sacrifices of our soldiers and martyrs, as well as all those who have fought valiantly for Pakistan’s defence.”
He remarked, “Let us draw inspiration from our shuhada and ghazis to defend and rebuild Pakistan with the same Spirit of September. In line with the vision of our Quaid, Muhammad Ali Jinnah by embracing the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion to chart a course towards a brighter future for our beloved Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari honours the soldiers who “made great sacrifices and defended the country against external aggression.”
