Rightsizing Policy; govt scraps 6,770 posts from Grade 1 to 22

Under its rightsizing policy, the government has removed 6,770 positions across federal ministries, departments, and divisions, as reported on Thursday.

Of these, 4,816 posts ranging from Grade-1 to Grade-22 were cut entirely, while 1,954 have been labeled as “dying” positions, following the federal cabinet’s decision in August to enforce austerity measures.

On August 27, the federal cabinet had decided to eliminate 60% of vacant posts across ministries and divisions to cut administrative expenses by streamlining the government’s structure.

According to official documents, the positions eliminated include two from Grade-22, 22 from Grade-20, 69 from Grade-19, 93 from Grade-18, 270 from Grade-17, 325 from Grade-16, and hundreds more across lower grades, down to 957 positions at Grade-1.

In terms of “dying” posts, the reductions include ten at Grade-18, twelve at Grade-17, and others across lower levels, including 578 posts at Grade-1.

The distribution includes 4,360 non-gazetted positions, while 456 are gazetted. The Establishment Division has instructed all relevant ministries and divisions to execute these cabinet-approved changes.

Earlier, the Establishment Division had removed 65 out of 102 vacancies, and the Ministry of Health had cut 654 positions.
