UK anti-racism protestors rally after far-right riots

On far-right call of protest, police were prepared for what they believed to be the most widespread night of violence. However, thousands of anti-racism protestors marched into the streets of multiple English cities, demanding an end to the far-right riots that have put UK police on high alert for several days.

Protesters gathered in Walthamstow, northeast London, chanting “Whose streets? Our streets!”. Some protestors were seen holding banners saying “Stop the far right”. In Sheffield, activists shouted chants “Say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here”.

The Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Met Police, Andy Valentine thanked “communities for coming together across the capital and for showing community spirit this evening”.
